The Ten Principal Upanishads

There are 108 listed Upnaishads, out of which Shankaracharya wrote commentaries for 12. 10 out of these 12 are popular and commented by many other sages as well. Madhvacharya has writen commentaries for 9 of these ten.

These Ten Upanishads (Dashopanishads) are:

1. Isha Upanishad (ईशोपनिषद्) (White Yajurveda): Isha=Lord/ God
2. Kena Upanishad (केनोपनिषत्) (Samaveda)
3. Katha Upanishad (कठोपनिषद्)(Black Yajurveda)
4. Prashna Upanishad (प्रश्न उपनिषद्)(Atharvaveda): Prashna=Question;
5. Mundaka Upanishad (मुण्डक उपनिषद्)(Atharvaveda)
6. Mandukya Upanishad (माण्डुक्य उपनिषद्)(Atharvaveda)
7. Taittiriya Upanishad (तैत्तिरीय उपनिषद्)(Black Yajurveda)
8. Aitareya Upanishad (ऐतरेय उपनिषद)( Rigveda)
9. Chandogya Upanishad (छान्दोग्योपनिषद्)( Samaveda)
10. Brihadaranyaka Upanishad (बृहदारण्यक उपनिषद)(White Yajurveda)

The other two commented by Lord Shankara are Shvetashvatara Upanishad and Nrisimha Tapaniya Upanishad.
